Moving Onward   Leave a comment

Since the last update, a number of positive developments have occurred.

1)  Yesterday, I received from our attorney copies of our filed and accepted Articles of Incorporation from the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, which classifies us as a non-stock corporation eligible for 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code.  This is the first step in the process and I am glad to finally be over that hurdle.

2)  Last week, a couple of women, both of whom have been very supportive of our mission and interested in finding ways to help, agreed to serve on our board of directors.  A set of by-laws will be drafted and approved in due course (dependent on whether we need to submit them to Wisconsin Soccer Leagues with our club and team applications on May 1 or not).  Introductions of the board will be coming in a future entry.

3)  More players have come into the fold and I have chosen to relax the residency rule for this year as the roster deadline is coming up too quickly to assure we can field a full squad in the manner of recruiting I am doing.  No, we’re not throwing caution to the wind here, just expanding our reach a bit.

All of that said, we still need a few more players and a licensed coach.  More information can be found in our What We Need entry.  We’re getting closer and for that, I’m excited.  The City Cup tournament is this weekend and I will be out watching the top sides from Milwaukee Public Schools in the hopes of unearthing the next generation of Milwaukee United players.
