3-for-3 at Doyne   Leave a comment

Following a 1-0 forfeit win over Milwaukee Sport Club on Tuesday evening, Milwaukee United SC returned to the friendly confines of Doyne Park on Saturday morning to finish up the home portion of its 2014 schedule in a Women’s Premier League crossover match against RUSH Wisconsin.  Led by two goals and two assists from Brandi Peltier (Ripon College/Hustisford), two goals from Paige Birschbach (Ripon College/Campbellsport), and a goal and an assist from Cassie Braam (Cardinal Stritch University/Port Washington), the Owls moved to 3-0 on the season with a 5-3 victory over the visitors from La Crosse.

It took all of forty seconds for MUSC to get on the scoreboard, as Peltier scored her second goal of the season following a 30-yard run through the left-center channel of the field.  The Owls would double their margin on 23 minutes with Braam finishing off a Peltier cross from the left flank.  Four minutes later, the scoreline would become 3-0 courtesy of a second goal from Peltier off a pass from Maria Stephans (UW-Milwaukee/Hartford) played over the RUSH defense from midfield.  First-half stoppage time would see the margin reduced to  3-1 when a RUSH free kick from just outside the penalty area struck the crossbar and was sent home on the rebound.

As in their match against Racine United, Milwaukee United would score in the 49th minute, with Birschbach converting a cross from Braam to make the score 4-1.  RUSH would bring their deficit down to two in the 64th minute only to see the Owls score in the 79th minute on a Birschbach header assisted by Peltier.  RUSH would close out the scoring in the 84th minute with a beautiful top corner shot that escaped the reach of MUSC’s Kristy Leopold (Southwest Minnesota State/Nicolet).

Aside from the scorers, notable performances came from midfielder Heidi Hetzel and forward Leeah Rivas (UW-Oshkosh/Sheboygan South), defender Danielle Doucette (Cardinal Stritch University/Nicolet) in her debut for Milwaukee United, and midfielder Katelyn Hronek (Lake Forest College/Wauwatosa West).  The next match for the unbeaten Owls will be this Saturday, when they will face FC Green Bay in their second league crossover match.  Game time is 2pm and the match will be played at Four Seasons Park in Hobart.  Join us as as we try for a fourth straight win and move another step closer to securing a spot in the WPL playoffs.  https://www.facebook.com/events/675146579200715/
